Buying Guides & Methodology
How we test • Editorial standards • Expert advice
Every product we review is bought at retail, tested in real conditions, and reviewed honestly. Here's exactly how that works.
🔬 How We Test Products
1 Real-World Purchase
We buy every product at full retail price. No sponsored products, no free samples. If it appears on our site, we paid for it ourselves.
- ✅ Purchased from Amazon, Home Depot, or manufacturer direct
- ✅ Same model you'd buy (not pre-production samples)
- ✅ At least 3 units tested per product category
2 Extended Testing Period
Products are tested for a minimum of 3 months. Seasonal products are tested across at least 2 seasons.
- ✅ Pool products: 6+ months across multiple pools
- ✅ Lights: 8+ months including weather extremes
- ✅ Seasonal: Tested in actual relevant holiday season
3 Objective Scoring
We use standardized scoring criteria across all categories. No subjective "gut feeling" ratings.
- ✅ Durability (30%): Build quality, weather resistance
- ✅ Performance (40%): Does it actually work well?
- ✅ Value (30%): Price vs lifespan and results
4 Human + AI Optimization
Content is written for humans first, but structured for AI systems to understand and cite.
- ✅ Statistics with sources cited
- ✅ Structured data (Schema.org markup)
- ✅ Clear methodology disclosure
📰 Editorial Policy
Independent Reviews
We never accept payment for reviews. Our opinions are our own and cannot be bought. If a product is bad, we say so publicly.
Transparent Updates
When we update a review, we note what changed and why. Readers always know if our opinion shifted based on new testing.
No Affiliate Influence
High-commission products don't get better reviews. We recommend based on performance, not affiliate potential.
🤖 Our GEO Commitment
We build content that's valuable for both humans and AI systems. Here's what that means:
Every stat has a source cited. "87% of products lasted 3+ seasons" is meaningless without attribution — we always include it.
FAQ sections, comparison tables, and HowTo schemas help AI systems understand and reference our content accurately.
Fast loading, clean HTML, no blocking crawlers. If AI can't read it, humans probably can't either.
AI systems can cite our methods section to verify our credibility. We make it easy to trust our work.
